When in crowded or poorly ventilated/filtrated areas, there’s always a risk of catching or spreading communicable disease. A well fitted respirator or better is the best defense, and layered mitigation is important to help further reduce that risk. The Airfanta 4Lite is an excellent addition to your toolkit if it’s within your budget.
Adam Wong has engineered a very thoughtful take on “laminar flow” to blow a stream of almost completely clean air directly towards your face. It sports the following:
– a solid, but not heavy weight
– 3 fan speed settings to use depending on how far the device needs to be placed from the user
– doubles as a very large portable battery
– improves breathability while wearing masks
– comes with a nice carrying case
As mentioned by other reviewers, the primary downside is really that it isn’t whisper quiet. But considering far noisier fans are used all over when it’s hot or uncomfortable, it’s hardly an actual issue.
For those who are trying to keep safe until cleaner air is here, this is one powerful extra layer of protection when you need to unmask.

Finally a personal air purifier which not only works extremely well but also looks cool. It is light-weight and fits easily into a bag or rucksack and offers a fantastic, innovative design allowing you to project a protective bubble of clean air directly onto your nose/face. Added to this, once charged, it lasts for ages which, for me, offers the reassurance of knowing if e.g. I get stuck in hospital, this item won’t run out of power and will help keep me protected. I should also add that I have received nothing but excellent customer service from the designer Adam Wong. He is v responsive to emails and cares deeply about fostering good relationships with his clients. I am considering seriously purchasing further items for family and friends.

We’ve been looking forward to getting the 4Lite as the other battery operated portable air purifiers are not as effective from what I’ve read in various third party reviews. We’ve been happy with the 4Lite (we also have the 3Pro). Have sent some emails to Adam re: availability and have had fast replies (always a good idea to check spam folders). Portable, quiet, and easy to change filters make this a no-brainer. The science and tech is sound and well-explained. Adam Wong and the AirFanta team was also easy to get ahold of, and very prompt in responding to my questions through email. They clearly put their customers and public health/safety over profit. I initially ordered 2 of the 4Lyte’s from the first pre-order batch, and THEY notified ME that their first batch sent out had a problem where the fans rpm speed was set a bit too high. To resolve this, they immediately sent me 2 NEW ONES FOR FREE!! Can’t get any better than that.

This was an expensive purchase for me, but as soon as I took it out of the box, I could see this is a beautiful and high-quality piece of equipment. I bought this specifically to use in situations where my family members or I may need to remove our mask indoors, such as the dentist, on flights, or at the doctor’s office.

I already own several portable air purifiers, but was very interested to get the AirFanta 4Lite due to its different technique, which uses laminar air flow. This purifier is not meant for cleaning the air of a whole room, but for providing a small safe space of clean air for people who are Covid cautious or who do not want to catch other viruses or inhale polluted air. If you place it next to you on a table, it generates a stream of clean air. So for example if you need to remove your mask on a crowded train in order to have a quick snack, you can start the AirFanta and should be relatively safe.
It is a beautiful device and comes in a lovely little suitcase. It is very easy to operate and has a strong battery. Note that this is not a silent or almost silent device; the fans can be heard clearly. I assume with this kind of technique, less noise isn’t possible. So it’s better to use it in places which aren’t very quiet. Also, some people may find the air blowing in your face a little uncomfortable. For me, this isn’t a problem as I only use it for limited periods of time.
Some more details: You can change the angle of the device (there are several possible positions), and the stand can also be used as a handle for carrying the AirFanta. The device can also be used like a powerbank for charging, e.g., a mobile phone. I have not yet changed the HEPA filter, but it is supposed to be very easy. The replacement filters can be bought on Amazon, too, and are very reasonably priced.

The packaging it comes in is really well done and says quality. Did not expect an air filter unboxing too be Apple-like. Actually better than my last iphone because Airfanta actually includes a nice charger and usb cable. Good airflow, not too loud.

This product is intended to provide safer airflow for persons in situations where they cannot be sure of air quality. To be fair, that is most places these days, as few facilities have chosen to clean the air we breathe.
Engineer Wong has been transparent about this air purifier’s purpose, abilities, and limitations, and will answer questions about the product at length on Twitter. Having had the benefit of this interaction, I purchased this as part of a layered mitigation strategy for my household.
The unit itself is elegantly designed and does not look like an air purifier, but in person seems like a rather nice fan. The parts seem to be machined precisely. The feel of the unit is one of quality—nothing seems flimsy or likely to break in use.
My spouse, who isn’t as dedicated to following C19 studies, literature, or mitigation practices as I am, has expressed his willingness to use this both during flights (where he looks forward to the breeze!) and in hotel rooms, where he will position it to blow into his CPAP air intake, thus providing clean air overnight. This is a Big Deal, as the best mitigations are those that the users will actually use.
I also see this as beneficial for dental visits, but I think for flights it will be an enormous help!
Edited to add: Husband packed this in his carry-on and said that it would be wonderful if the handle could slide to be flush with the unit in “storage” mode. That would have saved him a little space. Still, he’s enjoying using it!
