I was looking to take an old fireplace that I use occasionally with a duraflame log during the winter to a more functional and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
After a little research I decided to order the Antarctic star 36”. The opening of my fireplace is 36” wide and I knew it would fit. By reading other reviews, I felt confident that if the height of this insert was a little shorter than my fireplace I could get some pavers to put on bottom to fill in gap.
This insert was very easy to install. Although too heavy for me to lift out of box on my own, I cut the box away from it and was able to lift and place easily. All I had to do is plug it in!!
Although not the same as a real fire, it gives ambiance and heat to my living room which was my goal.
I also like the faux brick on the interior sides. It blends in with the real brick.

I purchased this fireplace insert because we never use our fireplace and I was tired of looking at the empty space. I am so glad I purchased this! I don’t need a lot of heat output but it does heat the room somewhat. If you get close, you can tell that the flame isn’t real, but it’s still very pretty and I love the look it gives the room.

Currently remodeling, and wanted to convert the wood burning fireplace to an electric insert. The opening for the fireplace is 36 in x 26 in, and I wanted just a slight trim look around the edges. Was hoping and praying that the stated specifications were accurate, and took the plunge and purchased it. Thankfully, this 39 inch model fit LIKE A GLOVE in the opening, and it looks beautiful!! Quiet operation, and it has options to change flame color and speed, ember color, and to have unit on with or without heat. All functions can be controlled on the touch screen on the unit or by the included remote. I am SO pleased with this product!

We bought this to replace a non-vented gas log insert because we couldn’t tolerate the burnt gas fumes. As a result, after the first use in this new home, the “fireplace” went unused for 3+ years. Didn’t want to spend $2-3K for a vented gas unit, so we looked for an electric insert. We wanted a quartz/infrared unit, but settled on this one because it was the closest fit for our fireplace “mantle” unit. In the picture, we placed a piece of leftover 1×4 at the top & we only had to buy the 3 landscape stones seen at the bottom & the piece of horizontal trim seen above the new unit. At first, we were not real excited about the control button lights on the unit but they go out [except for the red one] after the unit is running a bit. The only other esthetic downside was that the “logs” are a bit too close to the front – just doesn’t seem right. However the landscape stones are set a bit forward, so that kind of makes up for that. Functionally, it works well. It adds just enough heat [we only use the 750w Low setting] to keep our living room comfortable. Hardly any blower noise. My wife wishes the heat came out of the unit at the bottom rather than the top [she would then feel it more directly], but that makes no difference to me. There is no “crackling fire” sound, but that is also fine with us. If it had it, we would likely never or rarely used that function anyway – the heater is on when we’re watching TV so that noise would just get in the way. A good price for a very acceptable unit.

I put this unit in my unusable fireplace yesterday. It is very beautiful. I read dozens of reviews on 5 different units, and this seemed like the one that would be best for me, with the least number of repetitive negative reviews. No assembly or installation needed. The blue on the pic is reflection from the TV. The photo is to show that the flame height is good, which was a complaint against another popular unit. It doesn’t have an annoying split in the background picture, like one unit. And, at least so far, it doesn’t make any annoying noise. There is a single, small red LED light in the upper right corner when it’s off, which doesn’t detract from the appearance for me. I’m happy with this choice.
Addendum: One year out, after extensive use, this unit is still a pleasure. It has saved me a ton on heating bills, because I can heat the room I’m in, and turn down the thermostat for the rest of the house. I love the 2 colors, which can be changed separately, and gives a variety of looks. It makes no noise.
