bought this for my 20 x 20 garage that is used as a wookshop. We make doors, cabinets, other assemblies for our customers.
I have an insulated garage door, but everything else leaks[no insulation over garage]. on cold days, below 65, it works great. Start it in high, and after about 20 or 30 minutes it will take it to 65 from 55. Then we put it on low, and it keeps the temperature enough to do work, and apply finishes.
On low, a 20 lb. tank will give us 3 or 4 workdays. [usually a little longer than 8 hrs]
We’ve only used it in the garage , not any inside area.
P.S. – i haven’t had any issues some others have had. Always easy to start and run. I’ve used at least 4 tanks this past Winter, and just brought it back to the shop to use again. Put in a new tank, took 20 seconds to light pilot, started right up like new. No problem with thermocouple, but you can get replacement parts at home depot and Lowes, ace hardware.

I purchased this for the shop area of my new home. When I say “shop” I am not being literal. The house was built with a basic carport, but the former owner enclosed it, adding two barn-style swinging doors that can be opened to back a trailer into or park a four wheeler inside of it that open to the driveway. It also has another door that opens to the outside patio and has a storage room attached on the back. Obviously it is fully enclosed, drafty (the doors let in a lot of air) and where it’s attached to the brick house has a quarter-inch gap that lets in a draft. I use it for my small home business. Size is about 12×22, or 264 square feet of floor space with an eight foot ceiling. Again, it is fairly drafty compared to an indoor room. A 120v space heater (5,100 BTU) was nowhere near enough. It warmed one small area, but the end of the shop got very cold. I have a propane catalytic camping heater that when used with the space heater really helped, but I was burning the most expensive propane (1 lb. canisters) and my electric bill was ridiculous. Enter this heater. As it stands, my need was for about 8,000 BTUs of heat (2,112 cubic feet times a multiple of 4 for a room with weak insulation/drafty = 9,000 BTUs rounding up). That makes this one more than adequate which means it would be a serviceable backup if my electric heat went out — another reason for the purchase. And it is more than adequate.
Pros:
1) Way warm. I mean it’s a flame thrower on its highest setting.
2) I’ve been running it all day on low and it seems to be efficient. The tank level isn’t moving rapidly.
3) Has a piezo ignitor and a pilot that I plan to let run to “knock off the chill” as my grandmother used to say about her bathroom heater. These features make lighting it easy. Love that.
4) Looks pretty good. It’s a heater. It’s not beautiful, but it’s not hideous either.
5) Seems to have good safety features. Front screen is on well. Instructions are good. Claims to have an oxygen sensor that will trigger shutoff if it doesn’t like what it smells. I can’t vouch for the quality of it, but it sounds good.
6) Has wheels that make it portable, yet two of them lock, meaning it offers the best of both.
7) Good price point. You get a lot of BTUs (18,000) for the cost of the unit.
Cons:
1) There is a nearly useless metal wrap that holds the propane tank in around the back of the heater. Mine was missing the bracket on one side upon delivery meaning the wrap wouldn’t stay where it was intended. It hooks on one side of the back wraps edges the propane tank and hooks on the other side in the back. Well, it doesn’t work because it was missing that hook bracket (I could see where it came off). No matter… there is a recessed area for the tank and it fits fine without the snug back support wrap.
2) Upon lighting, it was pretty “gassy” meaning it gave off a lot of fumes. I tweaked down my tank knob to very, very low. It still offered up plenty of gas and the fumes were better. I now believe that it was some sort of residue or packing grease burning off. After the tweaks it seemed to go away, but it could have been burn time that burned off the smell.
3) Hookup was sort of a pain. It does not have what I would call a standard grill style attachment. A male threaded eye inserts into the tank using a reverse turn of the handle… it doesn’t go over the outside like most of these connectors do. Weird. Also the handle that you turn to insert the threads is not the most robust thing. It slides in place and doesn’t stay there permanently. It also is thin and loose. I don’t love it. I’ll be watching this, too. I fear this will be the point of failure meaning I’d have to buy a new hose and install it. That said, it’s one year in and it’s still doing fine.

We got this great little propane heater because it comes in a nice rolling case and uses propane so if we have a power outage we are able to put this in our basement by the washer/dryer water hook up which is against a outside wall and covered with cabinets. We have a propane fireplace upstairs if we do have a electrical outage but no other heat source downstairs so this will work nicely. It did say that it’s not intended for indoor use on the box but I think that they said that for liability. The other reviews that I read said they use it for indoors and it does come with the shut off oxygen feature and tip over feature. The tip over feature is real sensitive and I’m happy about that as we started it up outside to burn off any oils on the cabinet that would put off a odor and my husband wheels it around so I could look at the back and the tip over feature in it made it shut off. Ya! If this happens it tells you to wait a few minutes to restart. It works real well and heats up great and I also like that the cabinet doesn’t get hot. It will give me peace of mind that if we do have a power outage that I have a alternative heat source.

this heater comes with everything you need except the 20 lb. propane tank($31 after tax, Worthington tank at home depot, $20 to fill).connected tank, turned on gas at tank, checked all propane connections with 50/50 mix of dish wash liquid/water (a little messy), pilot and heater fired right up first try. ran the heater outside (no wind, pilot light will blow out if its windy) for 1 hr. on high, all new heaters and ovens smell till they burn off/paint smell, brought it inside and ran it for an hr. with 2 windows slightly open 1 half inch for ventilation, carbon monoxide alarm/meter registered ZERO! no smells/fumes. I live in a small apartment and was nervous about floor, walls, furniture getting to hot, only thing that got hot was front of heater, no heat radiates from back, sides, or top, cool to the touch, every part of heater was room temp. except the front, just need 3 ft. clear in front of heater. stuck my hand in back of heater while it was on, tank and hose were cold, only part that was slightly warm to touch was upper left corner of metal heat shield behind tank. turned off heater, and gas at tank, no propane smell/leaks, they say not to store heaters with propane tanks connected inside, I left it in kitchen, I woke up to no propane fumes, not blown to pieces or on fire, and very much alive,. I only got this heater for power outages, seems perfectly safe, but would recommend never leaving any kind of heater on while sleeping. I feel very safe using this heater and would recommend it to anyone except for my 89 yr. old mother, and people who cant change a light bulb. GREAT HEATER!
