works well, smaller than I expected. It is for a small room. It’s not big enough for a basement.

Our old, beloved SPT dehumidifier (a Consumer Report “best value” at the time of purchase) finally stopped working after our 13-year-old accidentally pushed the collection bucket in too forcefully. We reviewed CR for a “best value” replacement unit but could not find any of the recommended items (only different models) in stock anywhere. We eventually realized that the 2024 CR ratings were partially based on older trials and were outdated.
We wanted something relatively inexpensive (in light of what had happened to our poor SPT) and lighter in weight with a smaller bucket so that “ol’ mom” (me) could lift it easily; so we decided on this small Blauwhal unit. We had to wait about a week for the item to arrive and then another 24 hours (as instructed) to turn it on. In the meantime, we desperately tried using volcanic rocks to get rid of the mustiness.
The Blauwhal is a small, light, quiet, attractive unit with a tiny collection bucket, and it seemed to work well; but it was no match for our small (700 sq ft) but very humid basement.
According to CR, the more humid an area, the larger a dehumidifier should be. This small unit never get the RH below 50%, and the tiny bucket would fill up several times during the day and in the middle of the night, causing the unit to turn off.
The Blauwhal is about half the size of our old SPT unit and a quarter of the size of our even older LG unit (which is still waiting for Dad to take it to its final resting place).
The Blauwhal dehumidifier seems like a quality product, but it is just not the right one for our needs. Fortunately, Amazon offers free returns and even free pickup. Hopefully, the Blauwhal unit will be picked up tomorrow.
We already have a another replacement–a TCL unit that was delivered today by another vendor after we ordered it just yesterday. So far, the TCL (which was only slightly more expensive at a “Roll-Back” price than the Blauwhal was at Amazon) is already getting the RH level of our basement down to the 40’s.

I purchased the humidify to replace an older one I had in the basement, which sill worked but was noisy. Immediately I noticed it was quieter and smaller than my previous humidifier, and after a couple of days the basement felt drier. It was very easy to set up, and I set it to a humidity level of 50%, using the drip hose into my sump pump hole. I am very happy with the product.

We don’t have a fan in our extra large master bathroom/ laundry room. After a shower, or hanging up our wet laundry to dry the room stays ultra humid. We were worried about mold and also having to clean our tile pretty often as well. I researched dehumidifiers and settled on this one. It works great, looks sleek, and has helped us minimize mold and mildew in our bathroom. The wheels make it easy to move and it comes with a hose that can be attached if you have a drain nearby. or you can manually empty it. The dehumidifier has a sensor and will shut off automatically if the water level gets too high. Overall, this dehumidifier has exceeded my expectations. It’s reliable, efficient, and user-friendly. It’s made a significant difference in the comfort and air quality of my home. I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a high-quality dehumidifier. Worth every penny!

I suspected high humidity in our home. Although it didn’t feel humid and we live in a cooler area, it smelled musty in certain parts of the house. I cleaned and polished the furniture in those areas but the smell persisted — and this is a new house! Finally, I decided to give this a try after reading the reviews.
This is probably my purchase of the year. Indeed, the humidity level in my house was well over 60 % when we plugged this in. Within hours, this small machine collected a full container of water. And the miracle? The odor went away completely.
This thing is strong. I live in a 2 story house, and I just keep this in an open area on the 2nd level. We have an open floor plan. This seems to work well and improves the humidity levels in all parts of the house.
Bonus: I use the water collected to water our plants, so I’m saving money on my water bill (and saving water in general), too — which I understand is okay since it’s just water from water vapor, so long as they are not edible plants.

This product meets all expectations. It keeps my house (in humid S. Florida) between 40-50% humidity while outside exceeds 80%. Small, unassuming, not loud, easy to empty, it also seems to ease the strain on my a/c.

I didn’t expect too much for this price but it does remove a lot of moisture from the air.
I bought 2 of them and ran them side by side in my family room for a few days.
Since they were not near a drain, the tiny reservoirs filled up quickly so I had to empty them multiple times throughout the day.
Also, since they were only a foot and a half away from each other, I would have expected the digital humidity level readout on both of them to have the same number but one of them is typically 4 to 5 points higher than the other. Despite the different readouts, it seemed like they would fill up with water at about the same speed.
To seriously use these in the basement, you will want to put them near a drain. The short hose that comes with them is good if you can place it within a couple of inches of a floor drain but you’ll have to figure out how to extend the hose if you want to put it anywhere else, or just commit to checking and emptying it every 2 or 3 hours.
The good news is that knowing that the reservoir fills up so fast is at least evidence that it is pulling moisture out of the air.
