So I did a lot of research on kerosene heaters. I live in the NYC area and for those that dont live in the NE, our winters can get really cold. I work from home and with 3 little kids, I decided to set up my office in my garage. The garage isn’t insulated so it can get down to 40 degrees in there. Square footage wise my garage is about 500 sq ft. Before i purchase this unit, the biggest knock on this heater was the smell. So i bought this for Christmas and have been using this ever since. So close to 3 months of use. Is there a smell? Yes there is a smell, its a kerosene heater. Is it bad? No. Admittedly I don’t even smell anything anymore. Don’t know if I’m use to it but even my wife agrees, every time she walks into the garage she doesn’t even notice a kerosene odor. There is a noticeable smell on start up and shut down, so make sure you do both outside. I buy my kerosene from an oil distributor around the corner from me and its the red dye K1 kerosense. It cost 3.15 per gallon vs the clear kerosene they sell at Home depot for 10 dollars a gallon and I have no issue with the red dye kerosene. I also add the kerosene additive Kero-Klean. They come in different scents. Currently I have the cinnamon one. I’ve used Pine before and Vanilla. Do they work? not really but they also serve as a wick cleaner, odor reducer and they claim to make the heater burn more efficiently, so I use the product for those reasons. Would it be nice to have my garage smell like vanilla and cinnamon? Of course but it really doesn’t. Not sure if it really works but for 3 bucks for an 8 oz bottle, its not really a big deal.
I have a carbon monoxide detector in the garage at all times, crack the window and it gets nice and warm in my garage. During the weeks where we had historically cold weather (single digits and teens) my garage was at 66-68. Overall I really like this product. I know there were a lot of reviews that were really negative and I had doubts before ordering but having used this since December, I have to say that I think its fine and I would purchase again. Hope this review helps those that are on the fence.

This thing is great if you know what you are buying. My attic space only has one power outlet rated at 15 amps. Occupying the outlet with a single heater was not an option because even at half load you are still drawing about 7 amps or 750w Leaving no room for anything else to be plugged into that single outlet on that level.
I have researched a lot of different heaters as an alternative for electrical heaters. Good option was Mr.buddy personal gas heater but the only drawback was the fuel for that was propane gas. Propane gas is compressed into little one pound cylinders and you have to take great precautions even storing them away from your house. Propane gas can leak and it’s heavier than air so will eventually make its way to the basement catch on fire from the pilot light and so forth. If stored indoors.
Kerosene fuel on the other hand is very stable and can be properly stored very easily. Of course there are certain safety precautions but the those of kerosene are much less than any other combustible fuel for an indoor heater.
I chose dyna-glo because it is a reputable name on the construction market and construction men use outdoor versions of this that burn almost like a jet turbine. Apparently this is how people Heat their house in Japan.
When you do purchase and receive this item make sure you do watch a couple video reviews on how to properly burn the device and how you should break it in first Outdoors. Also watch a video for wick replacement it will help you understand how this machine works.
I have only used specific kerosene fuel made for heaters purchased at Home Depot premium price of about $10 a gallon. The only time it makes black smoke or smells is when first started for about 2 seconds problem solved by opening a window beforehand and leaving it open 5 minutes into startup. This problem goes away when I switched to klean heat heater fuel. When it is on and the flame is set at the correct burn level it’s produces no smell. When you would like to turn this heater off you must grab the knob turn it all the way up push and hold the extinguished button and slowly wind the wick down.
*Make sure you take the time to read all the warning stickers there are plenty of them and they’re put there for a reason to save you. I have uploaded the pictures with the word “HERE” in red to show you all the stickers I might have missed some.when you purchase this item you should read the warnings and make sure you understand them.
There is nothing hi-Tech about this heater except for the battery compartment which I do expect to fail eventually problem solved by using a long lighter or a match stick. This heats up the entire attic very well and makes a great backup emergency heater. The only way this heater could be any better is if it was free.

When it operates, it throws off a decent amount of heat but getting it started with the battery operated ignition system is a waste of time. It worked the first few times but after that we need matches. The other issue is the wick control knob is so hair trigger that when the dog walks past the stove (even from across the room), the auto shut down sets off. Not worth the money.

Works great heating house for auxiliary heat have used outside in garage for better comfort in the cold. Batteries stopped working after second use now have to use a lighter has normal smell starting and stopping flame and igniting button has stuck in a few times

Kerosene heater was delivered many days earlier than expected. Heater looks good and works good. Kero heater doesn’t burn much kero, can get 13 hrs on a full tank or possibly 14 hrs or so. Heater was new, came with batteries, instructions, hand fuel pump, removable tank, and tip over bracket. I have been using this heater each day, since i received it. Overall, i like this kero heater. Plus i got it on sale for $129 + tax + free shipping. You can’t beat that deal with a stick!!
