I took time to research an air conditioner that was quiet and did not compete with the volume of the tv. It is nice looking too, comes with Wi-Fi, and an app to install on your phone to control it remotely.

With NO exaggeration, this is a very quiet AC. It’s certainly the most quiet I’ve ever owned. Its so quiet that we mistakenly left it on because we didn’t hear it – for a weekend we were away. And a few times after that. I had to attach a night light to let me know when that switch was on. And yes it works very well to cool the room to whatever setting I choose. I think this General Electric AC is every bit as good as the more expensive Friedrich I have. I’m very happy with Cool and Quiet unit. Easy to install too..

This AC unit cools perfectly well, but it’s *not* quiet when the compressor turns on. My home has air conditioning, but the home office room has poor circulation and it gets warm in the Summer time, so I bought this unit to assist in cooling. I provide this context to say that even with AC, the compressor is on about half the time the unit is running. So for half the time, it sounds like I’m on an airplane. When the compressor is not running, this unit IS ultra quiet. But who cares when that is only 50% of the time? If I want to take a call or have a conversation, this has to be turned off immediately. It works great to cool the room, but it is NOT quiet.

The basic device is fine, but it was ruined by a lack of attention to detail.
1. The packaging is not strong enough to withstand shipping. The first unit I ordered arrived with a large dent in the sheet metal.
2. The normal quietness of the unit is ruined by some kind of problem with the vibration isolation between the compressor and the case. The compressor assembly seems to intermittently make contact with the sheet metal, causing a very loud vibration sound. You can whack on the right side of the case and make it go away for a while, but it always comes back. (It’s possible that this is another shipping damage problem, but it’s mentioned in several other reviews.)
3. If you leave the drain plug in, the water slinger sound is very loud. However you can’t quite get the plug out once the unit is in the window and you realize this. Also, the drain hole is too close to the front and will probably drip on your windowsill. It will also be a hassle to dry out the base before putting the unit away for the winter.
4. The touch button controls are horrible – hard to operate intentionally, yet easy to hit by accident. The only way to see the current setting is to look at the lights, which go out very quickly. You have to change a setting to get the lights back on. If you accidentally turn off WiFi (especially easy since that touch button is on the corner), you have to go through the painful pairing process again. You can’t tell the difference between the unit being turned off and it being on and in energy saving mode. Finally, there is an annoying beep every time you touch a button.
5. It’s very easy to get the remote control out of sync with the actual unit settings, and there’s no clear way to get it back in sync.
6. The WiFi function and app are as slow and clumsy as everyone says.

I bought this just a year and a half ago and I feel like the quality of the cooling has already dropped off significantly. Last year I set it to 76F and it cooled down to that temperature and turned off as it should. This year it’s on all the time, unable to cool the room down to the target temperature. Even when I turn it onto its max setting it really struggles to cool the room. And this is not during a heat wave or anything like that – if anything it was hotter last year. I don’t understand what happened but it’s barely functional.
It doesn’t drain well either, constantly making wet noises and struggling to run quietly even on the quiet setting. Considering how expensive it is and how long it worked well, I’d say get something else.

I just set this up in early May to look for something for just our small bedroom. I wanted something easy to install and quiet without breaking the bank. It was easy to install and works well but on any mode including quiet would make this awful wet slapping sound that was so much louder than the fan. It would almost sound like it was raining on the unit but not in a calming nice way, in a really weird annoying sound way.
After seeing some other reviews mentioning to remove the drain plug, I tried that and it sounds fine now. Not the quietest I’ve ever used but very quiet and works well for the price. If it at least lasts me all season with no issues I’ll be happy, better yet if it still works next summer.
So far we’re a few weeks in and it works well, is actually quiet (I’ll experiment with adding the plug back but it instantly got quieter once removed) and the remote control works well. The app setup was simple enough but worse than others I’ve tried like the Midea U shaped unit and the app itself for this one is pretty lame. Doesn’t even include most of the features on the remote so I recommend just not losing the remote and using that over any smart integration.
Two stars with the drain plug, 4+ with it.

In the south we deal with humidity a lot moreso than hot blistering days so our window units may run in the winter if it’s 70 and humid and this GE profile was easy to install and get sealed up. I like the updated remote control, temperature setting are easy and the quiet mode is amazing at maintaining the room temperature. I feel like it was definitely worth the money. As far as performance, when it’s time to cool a room down in a hurry, this machine does it quickly and efficiently. You won’t regret the purchase

I purchased this ac to put in my child’s room, it isn’t silent, but it is much quieter and definitely works really well to cool the room. I had some difficulty pairing the ac with the app, but it is nice to be able to turn the ac on an hour or so before bed so the room is ready.
There were a couple more steps for installation and it’s definitely a 2 person job, but we got it in the window last year and pulled it out for this winter no problem. Looking forward to using it again this summer.
