- EVAPORATIVE COOLING: HESSAIRE’s evaporative cooling fans are designed to pull hot, dry air through a water-soaked filter using a fan to decrease the ambient temperature. It DOES NOT use refrigerants to remove heat like an air conditioner
- INCREASE HUMIDITY IN DRY CLIMATES: The MC26A evaporative cooling fan is optimal when used in hot, dry climates to filter ambient air while increasing the condensation and delivering 2,100 CFM of cool airflow. Not effective in high humidity areas
- ENERGY EFFICENT & ECO FRIENDLY: Evaporative cooling fans save up to 50% on electricity compared to refrigerated air conditioning systems. Using water instead of refrigerant prevents any release of ozone depleting chemicals into the air
- MANUAL & CONTINUOUS WATER FILL: Hessaire’s MC26A has a 7.3-gallon water tank creating up to 3-4 hours of use. The built-in float valve and garden hose adapter allow for easy connection and continuous water flow without overflowing your tank
- EASY TO OPERATE & SIMPLE TO MAINTAIN: Fill tank, connect power, place unit in a well-ventilated area, flip the switch, and you’re all set. Before storing, run for 30 minutes on fan to dry the filter

Having lived in a house without air conditioning for over 50 years, I’ve been purchasing portable evaporative coolers. The last one I had in my bedroom broke, and I started doing research on the best portable evaporative coolers. Hessaire was at the top of every list, so I got the MC26A portable cooler. I bought it because Hessiaire said it was their “The MC26 is the 2nd smallest size and ideal for tight spaces. It features a humidity control and an air sweep function for broader coverage. It weighs just 28 lbs and is very portable. It measures 25” wide by 35” tall. It is our only cooler with a humidity control feature, electronic controls and a remote control.” It’s pretty big for a bedroom, and would work great on a patio or garage. Thought I would return it because it was so big, but decided to try it our first. It works really well, and is super quiet! It keeps the room very, very cool during the night. It does have some humidity sensor thing or something, but I leave the bedroom windows open while running it. During the day I turn it and point it down the stairs from the bedroom, and it cools down the house a lot. (I live in a tri-level) It does have a hookup for a hose if you have it outside, and the place to pour the water (if you don’t use a hose) is in the front, with a floating red ball so you know how much to fill it. Very convenient. (My last cooler I had to pour the water in the back, so it was in-convenient. Probably won’t use the two ice packs that you can put in the top to make the air cooler, because then you have to re-freeze them every day. Also easy to put the wheels on and you didn’t have to take anything out of the inside of the cooler to assemble it like my other one. I would totally recommend this product, but be aware that it is rather big for a small bedroom.

I ran this unit in a room less than 300 sq. ft. for 4 hours and it did not change the temperature one degree!
I verified with the manufacturer that I did indeed have everything set up properly, including ice packs, proper input and output air flow sources and placement in the room. This unit is not even as good as an inexpensive fan! Because it did not lower the temperature and added humidity into the room, making it feel even hotter. I live in an area with humidity levels in the mid 20’s, so that was not the issue. Don’t waste your time with a portable swamp cooler if you want to cool a room. Get a portable A/C, costs less and is worth it even though it will cost more to run it.

My residence is heated using a hydronic system, providing a pleasant and dry warmth. However, a downside to this method is the resulting dry air within the house. Despite trying numerous evaporative humidifiers, including the largest Venta unit, none were able to consistently maintain a comfortable humidity level. Currently, we operate five humidifiers throughout the home to regulate localized humidity, a task that requires constant refilling.
This year, our household was heavily impacted by the flu, exacerbating the discomfort caused by the dry air. Surprisingly, I had overlooked the effectiveness of swamp coolers in adding humidity to the air. I can confidently say that my search for a solution has concluded, as this machine surpasses expectations. It achieved an impressive increase from 25% relative humidity to 65% within just one hour for the entire downstairs area. The positive impact on my family’s breathing was immediately noticeable.
Despite the name “cooler,” the air emitted from the machine is only slightly cooler and not uncomfortably cold. Placing the device in front of a hot water radiator improved the air temperature and helped circulate warm air throughout the house. Initially, there was a peculiar odor, but adding a small amount of essential oil to the water quickly resolved this issue.
Recalling my grandparents’ large cabinet-like humidifier beside the wood stove, I appreciate that this unit produces a similar trickling water noise. The low setting of the fan is quiet enough not to disrupt activities around the house. Additionally, the ability to set a desired humidity level allows the machine to maintain the fan operation while shutting off the water pump when the humidity falls below the specified level, preventing over-saturation of the filter media. Overall, a very positive first impression!

This evaporative cooler does a great job blowing a lot of air while being very quiet. I use it on our patio in TX and it’s cooling performance is directly related to the humidity level. I tested it at 35% humidity today and the output air was ~18 degrees cooler and I could really feel the difference! 94 deg air being pulled in and 76 deg air blowing out. This matched up with the table I posted so was a nice surprise. Low humidity is definitely better and above 50% won’t cool nearly as well, but still works ok.
Pros:
– Looks nice, is mobile and not too heavy
– Draws a max between 50W (low fan only) and 90W (max fan, pump on). I run it off a solar charged generator so it’s reasonably energy efficient.
– Price is ok, not great
– Remote is included
– Easy to set up and use
– Cools nicely (in low humidity)
– Strong and quiet fan with oscillation feature.
– Tank holds a good amount of water good for >3 hr.
– Auto fill option works as expected (if used).
Cons:
– Remote doesn’t work beyond a few feet max when unit is in direct sun. It works at a further distance when it shaded. So expect to get up even with the remote.
– The touch panel is NOT sensitive enough. I have to annoyingly press multiple times for it to turn on or change the fan speed, etc. It’s easier to use the remote at 6 inches than to press a button 10 times!
– somewhat plastic-y and cheap feel to it, but ok.
– Manual recommends draining the tank and running the fan (only) for 30 min to dry out the paper media. It’s not hard but is extra work (think prevent mosquitoes?) so I do it. Also, some sort of algaecide will be need to be added every so often to prevent bacterial or mold growth.
Overall a nice unit that does what it promises.
UPDATE:
1) If you want to set the Relative Humidity (RH) level on the unit, it states to press the PUMP symbol. This only works on the display unit itself and not with the remote control. Both the display and remote show the same “water drop” symbol.
2) It seems that the touch buttons on the unit are finicky, but I had better luck doing this:
– Power button: Press and hold finger for about 3 seconds. This seems to work better.
– All other buttons: A short press works ok.

Works great. I like Hessaire products. I’ve had my large Hessaire cooler for six years and couldn’t be happier. This one is smaller but works very well for it’s size.

We live in Arizona and to be able to enjoy the patio by the pool in summer, these are a necessity. We had the older taller model and decided to go with this one for the smaller size and lighter weight. It doesn’t block our view and is easier to move around. This one puts out some seriously cold air even without adding an ice pack in the top of the unit. This unit is quieter than our old one and we love that you can hook it up directly to a hose, otherwise, it does need frequent filling (I use it a lot when I’m outside with the dog). You don’t really need a remote but it’s nice to have when you’re feeling too lazy to reach over to the unit. My only complaint is that in one of the two units we got, the blue ice packs leaked. I threw them out since we have some already that will work if needed. It made me wonder if it was a used unit that was returned. In the end, it was easy to clean up and there was no permanent staining. Happy customer! I am spending way more time outside now.
