This is about the most basic space heater you will find. It has a three position rocker switch at the top rear of the heater for High/Off/Low. Note, there does not appear to be any kind of “adjustable” thermostat, though the product description kind of implies it can be set between 41-86F.
What I think we have here is a “Low” position thermostat and a high position thermostat. Right now, I’m sitting in my 70 F house and with the switch in the “Low” position, the heater will not come on. There is nothing in the product description or the very limited instructions that tell the user at what temperature the heater will turn on. I suspect the temperature may have to drop to 41 F before heater comes on in this setting. This might be useful if you need “freeze control” but I’d still like to be able to set that “heater on” temperature myself.
When set to “High”, the heater turns on. I have no idea if/when it will turn off. Perhaps when the room reaches 86F. That may be difficult to test unless I shove the whole thing in a cooler and let it run for a while. It won’t be 86F here in Michigan again next summer.
I plan to use this in a boat that I’ll be working on over the winter. The boat is shrink wrapped and enclosed and because the heater is so simple, I’ll be able to use a smart switch to turn it on and pre-heat the boat a little before I go outside. So, on the plus side, I don’t have to worry about what the heater is going to do in a power outage (like with an electronic switch, where some appliances revert back to the last setting and other stay off).
On the negative side, I don’t yet know when the heater will turn on/off in the low position or the high position. I’ll report back here when I’ve had more time to test.
