The design is very unique! Received many compliments about it. While this unit is bigger than last one, I would have chose a bigger unit for 600 sq ft. The noise level is VERY QUIET. Although it comes with remote control, I don’t use it due to small living space. There is 3 speed setting for air flow but would prefer the highest setting to move air faster. Like the digital temperature selection. This unit is much better energy efficiency that previous unit.
TIP: for security, add a bracket inside window as shown in photo.
Wish a cover was suggested with unit.
Bought separate stand and returned it because description did not say stand came with unit.
Must buy Yotache Air Conditioner foam strip because it was thicker and better than one that came with Air Conditioner.

I had been looking at these units for a while – then at the furthest point from AC season, literally 6 months until I typically turn them on – I see a refurb 12000 BTU unit for less than half price of a new unit (if bought in the throes of hot season). Reading the reviews is a mixed bag, but inconsistent. Some comment on receiving what looks like a new unit, some comment that their unit is beat up, and some comment that they are missing hardware. I ordered two and thankfully, my experience is what looks to be never before installed units including all hardware.
There are many helpful videos available on Youtube, including an excellent one from Midea. This unit is smaller and not has heavy as the 5000 BTU Frigidaire unit that it replaced. I didn’t need two people to lift it into the window as the video suggests. The first install took about half an hour and went as smoothly as could be expected. The only slight problems i had were the part about cutting the foam and fitting it – and this is due to me using kitchen knives and approximating the measurements without using a pencil. Any air gaps leftover are easily hidden with white duct tape (not included). Part of the Midea video instructions say to use air conditioning sealer tape – which is not included nor is it listed in the manual as a part. Everything else was included. The 2nd unit took about 15-minutes due to me going through it once already.
The temps are in the low 60s outside, so there’s only so much I can do to test these things out. You can be sure that if things don’t work out when I need them that I will be back with a modified review, but for now it works. On full blast, this is between the loudness of my previous AC unit between low and medium. At low settings, this is the quietest unit I’ve ever experienced. The low fan setting is actually 40% and with the Midea app, it can be lowered even more to the point where the fan is quieter than ambient noise (I have a computer in the same room making fan noise).
Both units cooled down the room very quickly to 60F. But at the same time, it really isn’t a true test of the unit to cool a room to 60F when it’s already 65F. This isn’t what I would be using the unit for. However, so far so good. If it’s June 2024 and no update from me, then I have no complaints (or I abandoned my account LOL).
Very pleased so far. Call me crazy, but installing 2 12000 BTU units at the furthest point away from when I need them seems crazy, but at the same time – these two units together cost less than if I went out and bought just a single one when I needed it – and even then, it might be sold out.
Update 4 months later: it’s getting to the season where it’s not too hot outside, but the humidity approaches 100%. I’ve been running these in dehumidifier mode as needed. They are working well. I’m digging the app that lets me change settings on both units without having to be in the same room (or area) as the units as long as I have data or Wi-Fi connectivity. It’s much easier to use the app vs the remote. Plus, since I keep my mobile device around me, no more hunting for the remotes that I usually misplace if I’m not using it every day. I’ve found that both units remotes work with each unit and I haven’t found a way to make it so each remote only works with the unit it was packaged with – but I also don’t need that functionality.

I cannot begin to describe how satisfied I am with these products. I have now bought two 8000BTU and one 12000BTU Midea AC’s. As someone who grew up with window units before spending many years in a central air equipped home, I was dreading moving into a home that didn’t have central air and having to deal with window AC’s. But these products really changed my entire outlook on window AC’s. Let’s go over the pro’s and con’s.
Pros:
1: Installation is never easy when it comes to installing window AC’s, they are typically heavy and leave a lot of space to be covered where outside air can come in. These units however only took about 30 minutes to install. You do have to carefully follow the directions, and I would recommend using both the written instructions and the video simultaneously with each step to make sure you understand it before performing it. But the end result was that I was able to successfully install on with minimal tools and a great clean look on the inside and outside.
2: Insulation in modern windows is very important for energy efficiency, and you lose it all with a standard window unit that requires the window to remain mostly open over the AC. With these U shaped window units, the window itself is all but 2 inches closed, which makes great use of the windows insulating capabilities. The remainder of the space is covered with the included foam, which is thick and sturdy, and you cut it to size. Excellent design.
3: One of the things I was dreading most about window AC units was the power consumption. These units however really take the pain away with their efficiency and low consumption. We have been going through a heat wave of high 80s and multiple days in the low to mid 90s, and each of my units is only using about 25kwh per month. This is really helpful for peace of mind when it comes time to pay the electric bill. We don’t have to worry about trying to manage how much time the AC is on because it is not costing as much as many others do. I’m so grateful also for all of the APP settings and ways you can monitor usage on the unit.
4: Speaking of App, I am an Apple HomeKit user. Both of the 8000BTU units I bought brand new and work flawlessly in HomeKit by “matter”. Set up was easy, and we have many automations set up so that the AC’s automatically turn off when we leave the home or at night when we are asleep and the temps are down. If you don’t use HomeKit, you can also use Midea’s own application, which has even more features available. Unfortunately the tiny downside of buying the 12000BTU as a refurbished device meant that I got an earlier model which does not support Matter or HomeKit, and in the Midea App does not tell me how much power the unit is drawing or any historical data. So I get most of my data from the 8000BTU units, and a handheld Watt meter plugged into the 12000BTU AC. But I’m a nerd like that, I like to know how much electricity I am using with anything I own at home.
5: The units are exceptionally quiet, again due to the U shape design. The compressor and the loud noise making parts are on the other side of the glass window. Only the fan can be heard inside and it isn’t bad at all.
6: We have a 12000BTU, and 8000BTU AC on our first floor and they easily keep up with the heat waves, keeping cool a 1300SF space. Upstairs I have another single 8000BTU unit that keeps a bedroom and office cool, it’s about 400SF.
Extremely happy with these and would recommend to anyone who isn’t fortunate enough to have central air, or needs a supplemental cooling source.

Got this to replace an older AC that died. Much better. So quiet it’s perfect for an office or bedroom. Easy install. Much lighter than the old one. Kept large room (24 by 14) at 70 degrees on 100+ degree days during heat wave.
Again, very quiet. No start-up compressor growl at all. As quiet as the fan on a desktop computer. Has an easy to use app.
Will buy another. 5 stars.
