I weighed them before and after. Following the instructions provided for a perfect 1lb of propane. It feels heavy construction, so much so I thought it came filled. Initial thoughts are it is an excellent product when paired with the tank stands and filling valve.

Bought 2 tanks, both rusty, smashed and damaged and they charge as new product.
I’ve sent email directly for Mr. heater company and they told me not to use this product as the way it is, even they recommended me to return.
If you buy this check if the product is new because what I received as you can see in the pictures is not new at all.

I refilled the disposable 1# bottles for years. Years and years actually… it works if done right but I was never totally comfy with the process. Lately the Schrader valves don’t seem to last and after a couple refills they leak on occasion. Couple that with the thin flimsy metal the disposables are made of… each time the tank is refilled it expands a bit, empty it and it contracts… like bending a paper clip this flexing can weaken the tanks. I decided to check these kegs out… I tried a competing brand a few years ago and did not care for them… these I like. Yes, the ‘buy in’ is pricey, but the easy filling to a full 1# without weighing, stronger bottle and seals, increased safety and current crazy prices for the disposables it works for me.

I transport 1lb propane canisters and reluctant to put the throw-away ones in my vehicle so I looked into these compared to flame king. I used to refill throw-away ones but after seeing a few rust, I got nervous about the safety aspect. These are much sturdier (and they should be given they will be re-used many times) and heavier than the throw-away canisters. I went with Mr. Heater from various reviews online comparing the two. Make sure you check the sleeve on the refillable tanks, they have a tendency to stick to the nozzle on this kit. If they stick, your tanks will leak and you will know it. It will take me three or more refills before this approach starts paying for itself.

The only negative is the paint is already coming off of 1 of the 3 that I bought. I will be buying more of these when I need them.

I have been filling 5G tanks on a wet leg on my home 500gallon tank for 40 years and 4lb bottles for a decade with an adapter and schrader tool. This seemed more elegant. I burnt all the hair off my arms my eye brows and eye lashes. Why? The bottles are defective. The filler grabs the loose oring and white plastic spacer when you remove it from the filler. How do I know? I investigated after this incident and say two sets of orings and spacers stuck on the filler on the inverted 5g tank. The result is the tank leaks when installed and relies on thread seal… This leaks enough gas to rach a citronella candle 6 feet away and whoosh… Took the time of me threading the bottle into a table top pyramid heater…. Maybe 3-4 seconds. It torched the pyramid and table and everything near it. This product needs to be pulled from the market. I was fortunate to have an extinguisher a quick run away to kill the o2 to the gas fire… All of this is in the garbage not the recycle. AVOID like death folks. It is not the filler it is the tank as the parts went from tank to filler not the other way around .

Stop filling the landfill with those expensive $5 propane canisters! Use reusable canisters. This seems to be an idea that’s long overdue.
There appears to be two main products in the marketplace. The first-to-market Flame King (FK1) and this Fuel Keg (FK2). They both cost approximately the same on Amazon but this one has both a relief valve (to let you know your refillable propane tank is full) and an open/close switch right by the refill valve. I purchased 5 of these refillable cylinders, thinking that I will love this reusable product. How wrong I was.
The problem is that the quality control guy sent to China to do his/her job at the Chinese factory should be reprimanded:
1) Many of the refill adapters (valves) are defective in that once you finish tightening the refill valve with your heating device, the valve itself will start to leak; and
2) Many of the bleeder (relief) valves will not relieve itself of the excess propane when refilling from a 20 lb propane tank.
I contacted the Mr. Buddy customer service and here is the advice I received:
“To correct the behavior; a good way to get it unstopped is to remove the refill adapter from the tank and have the keg still screwed into the refill adapter. Squeeze the handle for a few seconds on the refill adapter. This should unclog the bleeder valve and enable the keg to be 100% functional.”
The instruction appears to be for those refill valve with aligning pin that is stuck, and this aligning pin must be mechanically connected to the bleeder valve. I tried this method, but seems the method seems useless for defective bleeder valves and does not help with the defective refill adapter.
I will upload my video to show what I mean later on.
