- Energy Efficient Cooling: Quilo’s evaporative air cooler works naturally with a non-compressor system, using less energy for lower electric bills
- Digital Controls: You can use the LED control panel on the unit to program your settings such as the timer, 3-speeds, or choose your favorite mode between quiet-sleep, fan, dry and cool
- Portable on Wheels: This compact fan is designed with 4 caster wheels and side handles for easy mobility; Customize your cooling by using your unit in multiple rooms and adjusting the oscillating louvers for even air disbursement
- Top Loading Ice Compartment: When dealing with extremely hot temps, inserting ice into the designated compartment can improve the level of cooling from your unit as ice cold air passes through the pads and into your room
- Quiet Operation: Running at 24 decibels in ‘Quiet Mode’ this quiet as a whisper fan can be used in your bedroom, nursery and study without interrupting your daily activities

I’m mostly satisfied with my Quilo. But there are a few odd things. One is that they don’t seem to be offering replacement pads. So, for those who own or are thinking about purchasing, I found a place in Tucson (AZ) that will create a custom pad for $35. They are called Aircool. The Quilo has less fan power than I was expecting—although more air doesn’t always mean more cooling because of things like surface area and dwell time. The fan also blows air only through the left half of the louvers, but you can rotate them to direct air to the right, so this is not a big issue. Finally, the converter (110v to 24v) creates more heat than it seems like it should for such a low wattage. This works against cooling to some extent, but the Quilo isn’t a cooler that’s going to significantly change the temperature of even a small room anyway. It’s a cooler that feels really nice when you are sitting directly in front of it. Finally, the Kickstarter campaign didn’t represent what this is fairly, so for people who don’t understand the limits of evaporative cooling, they might be disappointed. For example, the graphic comparing the energy cost of a window air conditioner to the Quilo. Apples and oranges. To cool even a small room, you would need a pad with a larger surface area, a stronger fan, and more water. The Quilo is somewhere between the larger portable evaporative cooler units and one of those little fans you carry around festivals with a spray mister. You have to be really near it to feel much. FYI, I’m in a very dry climate, so I’m using the Quilo in ideal conditions.

**Update: this is a product that will only last 1 year** DON’T BUY IT. It broke at the beginning of the 2nd summer, terrible design, faulty manufacturing. It has a pump that drops down into the water reservoir and the plastic bracket broke.
So far so good, I held back on the 5th star because I wanted to see how it goes when full summer is upon us. Thus far, it is super quiet yet pumps out a decent amount of cool air. The downside is the lights on it, too bright for the bedroom so I will have to cover them up some how.

Great idea but unit I received was defective out of the box. I purchased a new unit and received it in timely fashion but the water pump never worked correctly. It instantly issued a low water warning even though I filled the water reservoir to the max line. Tried it several times but could never get the unit to work. Without the water pump its basically a very expensive fan. I contacted the seller and after a couple of back and forth tries to get it working they issued me a full refund. IF the unit had worked I think it might be a pretty nice option to cool my small office but after the experience of spending a fair amount of time trying to get it working unsuccessfully, and reading up on how its a brand new design that’s only been around for about a year, I decided to go with a traditional window A/C unit instead.
I would say its very nice looking unit, well constructed and the fan is as quiet as advertised … just think they probably have a few kinks to work out.

This is one of the better purchases I’ve made. Portable and durable and very simple to operate. I’ve used this thing off of a solar battery pack and it will go all night. Simple to operate and remote control to adjust from bed. Bought it in Summer ‘18 and still in use today.

Super quiet! Adds moisture to the air unlike an air conditioner which removes moisture. Cools the air nicely without a lot of electricity. It is not designed to be a noisy window air conditioner but it does cool really well for a low power consumption unit. I hardly ever use my window air conditioning unit anymore because this is all we need unless it gets really hot outside. I might but another one in the middle of summer. It will last all night on one water fill up if the fan is left on medium. So glad I bought it!! Great quality too.
UPDATE- I had to buy another unit because the first unit failed. The water pump died. The unit automatically shuts off when the water gets low. I try to keep it full, but I can’t watch it every moment of my life. The unit should be built to protect itself- I am not sure it does that very well. I will report back if the second one fails. I really do like the machine however. Don’t expect it to cool as well as an air conditioner. Swamp coolers never do, whether big or small, but they certainly make the atmosphere, cooler, more comfortable and not nearly as dry. I am going to drop the rating to four stars for the pump failure. and if it was just a defective unit and not the design and lasts a year or so, I will put it back up to 5 stars again.
