   Plenty of directions, straight forward for a diy’er. Got the heater going no big issue. Depending on your model heater, you might need to route the lines to take up slack. Make sure the thermocouple lead does not ground out by touching any metal part.

   This part was successfully installed on a State Select GS650YBRT. This part was ordered and arrived on the same day by Amazon for $5.99 extra shipping.

   Our water heater stopped working the night before. We called the home warranty company who assigned a less than reputable company to our case, at least that is what several of the reviews of the company stated. I became concerned.

   The next morning, my wife and I pulled the suspected part out to diagnose the problem. It was the thermocoupler had broken at the small battery type capacitor. I had to replace the entire assembly. I purchased the assembly on amazon with same day shipping. We easily installed the part after taking the old part off, reconnected everything, ensured the fittings were tight after checking them with soapy water with the gas on. We smelled for gas and there was none. We reignited the water heater and 1 hour later, we had piping hot water and still no call from the alleged company assigned to fix our water heater.

   Furthermore, A reputable plumbing supplier, who will go unnamed, but name starts with an F and ends with and n advised that they could not sell me just the assembly needed but I would in fact have to buy the entire burner assembly for $88 and it would show up in a short 5 days. This part worked great, saved money and I was able to do this myself. Just ensure you reconnect the gas properly and do everything methodically and slowly. You can do it.

   I am totally inexperienced in working on water heaters but was able to fix my Reliance Water Heater with this part. The pilot began to falter and after many restarts, I couldn’t get it to stay on at all. I spoke to a few people who advised I replace the thermocoupler, but I wasn’t convinced that was the problem. On opening up the heater, I discovered that one of the resister wires on the gas pilot assembly was broken and that there was a carbon buildup around the open gas tube. So, I slid the old part out and moved the new one in, taking care to observe how the old part was installed. I’m slow, so it took me 2 hours or so. The part is excellent, installation not too difficult but awkward, as you will have to lay down on the floor in order to get to the gas pilot area. Also, once you have everything open and gas turned off, vacuum for carbon or dust buildups in and around the pilot light chamber.

   Used to fix Kenmore Water Miser 9 water heater.

   I had the typical problem of my pilot light not staying on. After a lot of googling, youtubing, and finding owner’s manual for my Kenmore water heater online, I concluded that something was wrong with my thermocouple. I identified the exact part number through the owner’s manual to replace the pilot lighting mechanism (the thermocouple is not replaced separately). The Sears’ parts website only sells the entire burner assembly, not just the pilot light/starter/thermocouple assembly. To replace the entire burner with the Sears part would have cost over $100. I took a risk, I think, by ordering this part, which I assume is an after market part not manufactured by Kennmore/Sears. Luckily, it was an easy replacement and good fit–and it worked. So far so good. I did get a two year extra warranty for a few extra dollars just in case it goes out. Hopefully all is well and everything is fixed more much cheaper than the Sears part, and a whole lot cheaper than calling a plumber.

   I have 14yr old A.O. Smith ProMax Plus FVR-50 which ran trouble free since new and one night it just quit working. A little investigation revealed that gas was flowing, but the pilot light would not stay lit even after many attempts to keep it ignited. A little search showed that a common issue was clogged baffle beneath of the burner or T/C being defective after the search.

   I did find the direct replacement from A.O Smith but delivery date was 3-5 days out and without hot water for a week was not acceptable so ordered one day delivery from Amazon that was 99% identical to OEM part.

   Removing the burner assembly to take the igniter assembly was simple enough, but my problem revealed after all parts were reinstalled back to the water heater. The ignitor did not induce the pilot light to ignite for some reason or the other. Removed the burner assembly again and tried the igniter and it produced a spark maybe 1 out of 3 attempts which were the reason, and a spark was weak. Using a file, I lightly scuffed the tip and using a needle nose pliers; I tilted the tip closer to the pilot gas hole which helped spark to work every time the igniter was pressed.

   Just to make sure, I mounted T/V, main gas feed, and Pilot gas line while the burner assembly was still outside and tried the pilot gas to make sure it worked. After pressing down the pilot gas button for 30 seconds, the pilot gas was steady with good blue color. Assembled all back, checked the gas lines with soapy water for leaks and an hour later, I had a hot water again. I had some issues, but in the end, it did save my day from potentially very long week without hot water so my thumbs up on this product.
