It’s not very quiet, but I didn’t expect a device like this to be. When it’s hot af, one truly does not care about such a thing. This baby pumps out plenty of cold air. I have a small 400 sqft studio, so it works perfectly! Installation was pretty straightforward and quick. Nice function at a good price!

We bought this A/C unit to use when we stay in my parent’s upstairs loft in their new house, which always runs much warmer than the downstairs.
The price at the time we bought this was exceptional, at under $200 and it is very small in size, taking up only about one square foot of space, which is really nice.
On the plus side, the unit is not too noisy (the compressor is extremely quiet, but the blower makes most of the noise), and it runs very cold, cooling the rather large room quite well. The included window venting kit actually worked really well, even though the window is quite high above the floor. (I originally ordered an extension hose, but never needed it as the included hose had length to spare.)
The really weird quirk about this unit is that the fan shuts off once the unit reaches the setpoint, which is actually a very good thing that most of these units do not do. The bad thing is that the fan turns off and NEVER turns back on… EVER, even intermittently every so often to sample the room air temp. Since we were using this in the cooler season, where outside temps get into the 50s and even 40s at night, once the fan shuts off, the sensor seems to sense only the cold outside air coming in through the exhaust hose and thus the unit never cycles back on again, even if the room gets very warm. To get the unit to cool again, I have to basically ‘trick’ it by switching the mode to FAN and allowing it to run for maybe 30 seconds, during which time the temp display will start off showing maybe 66, then rapidly increases to the actual room temp, which is let’s say 74. I then switch it back to COOL mode and the process starts again and the unit will run until it reaches the setpoint again. They need to have the fan turn on for maybe 30 seconds every 10 minutes or so to ‘sample’ the room temp so that the unit can cycle properly. This might not be as much of an issue during the summer, but I noticed that even during the day when outside temp got warmer, the unit still thought it was much cooler in the room than it actually was, until I manually switch it to FAN mode. The other strange thing is that the display will show the actually air temp while in FAN or DRY modes, but not in COOL mode.
Bottom line, the unit runs cold, is small, and relatively quiet, especially for the price. The only major downside is that it doesn’t detect the room temperature and cycle properly because the fan never comes back on periodically to sample the air temp.

Due to the unexpected July heatwave, I purchased this unit based primarily on the positive reviews. (I chose the small size for my bedroom.)
The setup was relatively easy, but would have been easier if the cord had been longer, enabling a more desirable location.
I really like the “Sleep” mode, which monitors the temperature. Note: The unit goes silent when in sleep mode.
PS: The low-volume noise is acceptable for making my bedroom extremely tolerable. I have had much more sleep (from four hours to eight hours!).

At first I didn’t notice that instead of the controls being on top they were on front, but most of these units are the same inside anyway. This one is rated 8000btu/hr and was in the box for the
ZAFRO 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioners I ordered.
After running it overnight and using a 7 quart bucket for the hose and almost running it over I decided to run the hose outside. To do this I set it atop a crate with a tray just in case it leaked, allowing the water drain to run downhill and not collect in the hose. The exhaust tube is also slightly downhill because I was afraid rain might blown into it and drain inside the unit itself.
As far as installation it was straight forward, the manual was clearly written, and mostly obvious what was needed to mount and assemble. The description of the water tank inside was a bit vague where the two drains are considered since the only reason for the lower drain would be if you did not use the upper drain and hose, making it necessary to lift it up and drain collected water after the auto shutoff occurs due to a full tank (light indicates full, too).
The operation also was clear with a few exceptions: Sleep Mode use, Timer use, and how it operates to maintain the temperature. Sleep mode is not explained and works simply to turn the fan down to low and slowly raise the selected temperature 2° after a few hours. Timer use requires the unit to be off to set the number of hours before it automatically turns on; and while running the timer can be set to turn off in like fashion. However, the times I have tried auto start the unit has not turned on, but it is not something I really need. The operation is such that if you set the temperature to 70° the unit will run until it reaches below that and turn off with the lights still operating on the display. You may also hear the compressor cycle off every 30 minutes which allows any ice accumulation to be cleared in the evaporator, then cycle back on with the fan still running. When the unit is not running and the temperature rises 2° the unit will automatically turn itself back on and repeat cooling until it reaches just below the selected temperature again.
The biggest negatives: Selection Chimes and Bright Lights. I found the selection chime that occur with ever button press to be annoying, but there is nothing that can be done short of disassembly to find the source and mute it, not something anyone would really do. So it is loud and unnecessary. The bright lights on the display cannot be dimmed either, and contrary to some indication that sleep mode dims the lights, it does not on this one. The remedy was strips of green tape over the lights, which are still visible easily, and show the functions of the unit.
The remote is easy to use and displays the selected temperature. It has Timer, Sleep, Fan low/high, Cool, Dehumidify, Fan Only, and On/Off buttons. There is no backlighting, which would have been nice at night. You can select low or high fan, but we typically use the unit in our bedroom on low all night long and keep the central air at a higher setting rather than cool the entire downstairs to our desired sleep setting. It is really nice and cool. If you can’t get used to or the noise bothers you too much you can use the memory foam ear plugs like I use to quiet it down. I used the ear plugs anyway for snoring coming from my wife and dog at times. The unit should run far cheaper than the cost of central air (still waiting for billing comparisons) and as stated the bedroom is very cool and comfortable now.
One note concerns the initial operation that says to wait 4 hours (in one place) before operating it to allow the oil to drain into position in the compressor and tubing. Another place it says 24 hours. The box shows the carrier with arrows how it should be handled for delivery, but do carriers actually keep the box upright? I waited over eight hours for full operation, briefly checking that it worked on arrival and installation. The air is cold and the unit has worked as advertised for us. So far, very happy even though this one was sent and does say Zafro on the label but is identical to the R.W.FLAME 8,000 BTU Air Conditioner sold on Amazon.
