First off Yes it is installed in my van, yes I move the stuff away from it and lean the seat forward.. The only part that gets Hot is the dark brown louvered part and the outside exhaust, THIS IS HOW ITS DESIGNED! The sides and top get warm but not so much as to start a fire.. The heater is equipped with a thermostat. On setting #1 it provided perfect amount of heat inside of van and when it warmed up it went down to pilot only, Outside temp was 9 degrees F.. The heat is a nice warm dry heat, all the moisture and gases from burning propane are vented outside. Upon the first 1/2 hr or so of use you will get an odor as rust preventive burns off, No Visible smoke and the odor does subside.. This is 11,000 BTU unit so keep this in mind.. Perfect for van, RV, camper or small room.. As for customer service AAA+ I contacted Ashley directly when I had questions (they do have a web site) Amazon does offer the best deal it arrived well packaged in original Box.. You will need to have a fitting to connect to LP tank, (available at hardware store). I use a 30lb propane take. Propane consumption is minimal and Ashley has a download that tells you the consumption from their site.. INSTALLATION the instructions are thorough and detailed for me it was easy if you have no experience there are several youtube vids to help you out.. this is a GREAT UNIT! Dont listen to the Haters of the heaters!

Update: After the fifth Pilot Burner / Igniter Assembly failed (this one the pilot burner fell out lit) I decided to file a defective product report with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. These units need an upgraded pilot/igniter that can’t fall off it’s mounting plate. Please contine inspection weekly if you have these in service for your own safety.
Original review: I bought three of these in Oct 22. Installation was not hard, but requires attention to detail and a somewhat advanced mechanical ability, as you might expect. One unit clearly had some shipping damage as seen in the pictures. In addition, I was surprised to learn that all the tube fittings that seal LP gas were barely more than finger tight. Maybe due to rough handling? Anyway, please take the time to remove the front cover and check the tube nuts. Be very careful. The Pilot base plate has a very cheesy swedge affixing the brass base nut to the steel plate. YOU MUST USE 2 WRENCHES! Using a10 & 12MM with the back-up wrench as to prevent breaking the brass nut to steel innerface. Overall for the price, the heater is a beast and does work well after the initial smell burns off. Also, highly recommend lighting outside for a 1/2 hour to “clean” before indoor install. I wish I had, after needing to open all windows and doors for an hour to get the smell out. I contacted Ashley (US Stove) and these parts are all on backorder (1/23). In addition, back when I got the item and saw the broken ceramic igniter, I called them. The agreed to send the igniter so I would not have to return this installed unit to Amazon. Crickets from them… And, my return window is past. Going to the HVAC Supply house to see if they have a generic pilot assy I can use. Please check thouroughly before putting in service for proper assembly and torque of gas components, and don’t overtighten! Get help from a qualified person if you are at all unsure. These notes will guide them as well.

Decent heater. The insulation was a bit tricky to squeeze between the vent and the wall. Also, the female gas fitting is a pretty dumb design and requires a special female to female adapter to attach the gas line.

I use this in my office and it will keep my office nice and warm all winter long.

Pilot was hard to light. Took it apart and found the igniter is damaged. Works sometimes. So now it’s installed and I don’t want to uninstall it, leave a hole in my wall and send it back so I need to buy a new igniter if I can find one like it.

i bought DOZYANT hose with regulator,, work great. takes awhile to get gas to pilot light. maybe 5 min.,,make sure the long rod threads into the heater. fasten wall bracket to wall and mark on wall where 4 o 6 heat shield will go. remove wall bracket. screw heat shield to wall, draw around heat shield, remove heat shield. and cut hole.

Love the size easy to install looks ok, bad part is when ever the wind blow 15mph it blows the pilot light out will even blow furnace out when it’s heating. Called company three times and there fix is return it, instead of fixing the problem, customer service is some of the worst I’ve ever dealt with. Problem is once you have framed wall, plumbed it for the gas, get all ready and it won’t run there is no other vented wall heater that will fit in the exiting hole, who wants to start all over removing siding framing in moving gas. This company doesn’t care basically there answer to me was tough shit and return furnace instead of trying to solve the wind in exhaust problem! Don’t buy!!

Well, the posted videos where the unit “caught fire” are a but alarming, but there is a burn off in the isolated “firebox” that gave me about 5 seconds if panic. But all good, probably normal on high settings when new And one of the mounting holes on the bracket or back of heater was way off, but didn’t matter, heater is securely mounted anyway. It does stink a lot during “burn in” period, but gets much better after a few hours.
On the positive side, very quiet, seems relatively efficient, although awaiting subzero temps for the verdict. My tiny cabin is warm, and this was a safer choice to replace the “invented heater” which needed cross ventilation from appropriate sized vents, which made for drafts of cold outside air, which probably negated the efficiency of the old heater. So far, great for the price, saved $115.00 over local fleet store, and pleased with this purchase.
