I have been using the Boveda 49% Humidity Packs for years in all of my acoustic and electric guitars. They are super easy to use. There is no muss, no fuss as the gel liquid is in sealed the packets.
I live in the NE so with the heat on in the winter it can be very dry (low humidity) and without a/c the summers get pretty sticky (high humidity). These packs do a pretty good job regulating the humidity in the case.
I use the Boveda Double holders which holds two humidity packs and put one double holder over the strings and hang it into the sound hole of my acoustics and one double holder with two packs under the headstock. The inside of the case stays between 45% and 55% which is ideal. I do the same for my electrics but I only use one double under the headstock. I found this is enough to keep the fretboard hydrated and prevent fret sprout.
I find that I am getting 8-12 months of use out of the packs using them the way I do once they are opened. I buy in bulk and store the unused, unopened packets in heavy duty zip lock bags. Never had a problem doing this even if they are stored for a year.

+ They last pretty long. Around 5 months for us.

– While they do work, they can’t really keep the humidity level to 49% in our cases. We use a room humidifier and our winter RH is right around 35%. Inside our cases it’s around 40%.
-More garbage for the landfill compared to reusable sponge type humidifiers.

I used these humidified packs to store my guitars when I was out of the country for over six months, they worked perfectly for that time period, I even had remote humidity monitoring in the cases so I could see the humidity inside the case, humdity was maintained constant with in a couple percent of the rated humidity on the package, they lasted a long time and worked perfectly. The price of these humidity packs is far better than the competition a great buy for those looking to ensure they avoid costly repairs to instruments due to cracking and humidity issues.

Packs work great and the holders also are great. Fit into sound hole and are very soft so won’t scratch guitar finish. Also has handy strap handle to pull out. I gave review of packs by mistake for holders.

I had neglected a humidifier for years, until my guitars needed repairs. Now, I have found these and I am taking proper care of my guitars. No Water to add. No anything! Just put the little packs with what you want to humidify and they will do the rest. Lowers humidity that is to high and raises humidity that is to low. If only all of life was this simple!
