A Garrison through-the-wall unit is in the apartment I just rented a few weeks ago (July 2019). I don’t know its exact age, but it appears newer & has electronic controls, including an electronic remote.
A week after we moved in, it stopped working. It’s now 2 weeks later since it stopped functioning, and there’s an excessive heat advisory issued for the next few days. Landlord moving slow as molasses in January in getting this repaired, & heat is supposed to go above 100 tomorrow.
So I look on line for Garrison’s website to see if I can find an instruction manual & try to do it myself. Only one problem: THERE IS NO SUCH WEBSITE or COMPANY AS GARRISON! (At least not any more). Instead, I’ve learned “Garrison” is just a name some mysterious factory/manufacturer slaps on its products that is sells en masse to major retailers like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. There is literally no visible or accessible company to stand behind these products.
STAY AWAY.
UPDATE 7/30/19: It turned out that all we needed to do was press & _hold_ the ON (power) button to get it to work. But it took getting a maintenance guy coming over to figure this our for us. Could have saved him the trip (& our landlord some money) if there were an easily located owner’s manual on line.
