I was originally looking at the Mr. Cool brand for DIY mini splits to cool off my newly renovated bungalow, but I am glad I picked the Klimaire version. I opted for the 115 V 12,000 BTU option since I was cooling a smaller area and I am more comfortable working with 115 V lines. Initially I was worried about the lack of Youtube installation videos for Klimaire compared to Mr. Cool. I found that the instructions were fairly straight forward if you have a strong DIY skill set and experience. I also found the steps for installation were basically the same as the Mr. Cool mini split, so if you are unsure if you have the skills to install this mini split watch those videos. I found the hardest part of the install was running the new electrical lines for the new AC disconnect, the actual install of unit was fairly straight forward. Be mindful of the weight of the outside unit, it is sixty lbs for the 115 V unit, so have a solid plan if you need to install off a ladder.
The only quality issue I ran into was with the stamping quality of the fan shied for the outdoor unit. It looked like it was not properly released from the die when stamped, or bent when assembled. Regardless the fan blade hit this bent point in the shielding and stopped spinning when I initially started it up. Fortunately, I caught this quickly and was able to remove the grate and bend the metal into roughly the right position with a set of pliers and the fand spun without hitting anything.
The cooling quality was much better than expected, I ran a stress test after install and was able to bring my 500 sq ft bungalow down from 79 F to 68 F in 2 hours with no issue. I tried out the heating function, but it is too hot to truly test out the function. The remote is confusing, with buttons like “Turbo” that does not change the cooling level, just turns the fan on high, and the “Mute” button turns the fan on low but does not turn off the beeps whenever the buttons are pressed. I think this stems from poor translations into English for the remote. The App is surprisingly much better and I would just use that. The translations in app seem to be easier to understand with illustrations and the programming was easy.
Overall I am very happy I went with the Klimaire unit over the Mr. Cool as I saved ~$500 for exactly what I needed and the installation was easier than expected.

6/22/24 I installed the unit myself. I had no real issues. My only “problem “ was I had 25’ of lines and I needed 8’. It took around three hours for me to install the unit, and about 1 hour for the electrician to run the new 220 circuit. It puts out very cold air, and the heat seemed to have a nice feel as well, but I only left it on for the 5 minutes called for by the startup procedure. I had a working PTAC in the same area, I am very hopeful this DIY minisplit can help the electricity bill. It is so quiet compared to the PTAC we have it set to turbo so we can tell it’s running.

Update: May 2023 – After doing great for a single summer, this summer rolled around and this unit is only blowing room temp air. Had and HVAC tech come out and inspect the unit and the tech verified that all of the components were operating properly, but wasn’t a fan of the brand and essentially told me “You got what you paid for”. He said I could pay $300 – $400 to have the unit evacuated and recharged, but couldn’t guarantee that would fix anything. He believed the precharged linesets could’ve been contaminated with non-condensables or moisture and that over time that is what’s compromised the unit. Very disappointed.
Original Review: So far this unit works great for its intended purpose of cooling a westward facing Florida 2 car garage. It has not been tested in the heat of FL summer yet, will look to update this review after I have some feedback on summer performance.
The only complaints I have so far: the unit arrived with bent fins on the coil of the exterioor unit(see pictures) and some missing screws (missing a screw for thr electrical cover). When I reached out through Amazon there was no response to these issues.
The instructions were not always easy to follow, especially with respect to electrical requirements, but good enough to get the job done.
Operation since completing installation has been excellent. The app has been easy to use to control the unit, and the performance of the unit has been great.

Wall mount very flimsy, poor instructions, no options for line set length. Great value!

Perfect way to heat and cool my wifes she shed. Instructions are easy to follow and it works well. Haven’t used enough to see an impact on the electric bill.
