First I will say that the unit performs well once installed. Having said that, the install instructions are lousy.
Screws to assemble the sleeve take so much force to drive in the heads are likely to strip. No cutout size or template for the sleeve. No instruction as to how deep to mount the sleeve in the wall (“Install the sleeve.”). AC unit comes with tapered FOAM shims to insure proper angle. Shims were TOO THICK according to the directions by 1/4″. The shim adhesive stuck to the removed paper, meaning the shims had to be installed with spray glue. Once installed, the unit would not slide in on the foam. I had to use hard plastic strips for the unit to slide on until it was in place, then remove the plastic strips. Since the unit is heavier at the front, the foam wedges compress more in the front allowing the unit to slope into the room, contrary to the intent of the wedges. Screws from the sleeve mounting brackets interfered with unit installation. Screws had to be cut off inside for the unit to slide into the sleeve. The finish trim does not reach the wall as there was no instruction on how deep to mount the sleeve. The unit cools nicely but I have not run it long enough to see if water will leak inside due to the negative slope. If it does I will have to remove the unit and make new shims out of plastic or pressure treated wood, and glue them into the sleeve. All in all an installation nightmare.

Overall I think this is a great unit for the price. Good basic features that work as advertised. Installation could be improved. I live in the midwest where it tends to be hot and humid. During the start of the working from home craze I was working in my non air conditioned sun room. I purchased this unit knowing that with the doors closed to a room with 8 windows for a 12 by 16 space and a vaulted ceiling that it was going to get hot. I shopped around and found this to be the best option for the price. This unit has very basic features and has effectively controlled the temperature in the room so some pretty hot and sunny days. The installation for me was a fairly major job since I had to cut a hole in the sun room and reroute some electrical but the directions were fairly clear on what was required. The rest of the installation instructions were fairly clear to me with one exception. There is definitely an issue with the installation of the shims on the bottom of the unit that tip it back (as mentioned in other reviews). They are too thick and will not allow you to install the unit properly into the sleeve. fortunately they are foam and easy to trim. I would dry fit these without sticking them to the sleeve and cut them with a utility blade to fit. Then pull the backing off and stick them to the unit.

I bought this unit as a proper replacement for a window air conditioner that was improperly installed with tape and foam in the pre-instaled sleeve in my room.
This air conditioner fit perfectly and works great! My remote did not work out of the box (yes, i removed the plastic tab), but I will buy a new battery before I call it a complete loss.
This unit rapidly cools off my room. It is not the quietest, but my room is small, so I am always very close to it. I bought an 8K BTU unit and it provides more than enough cooling for my small room. It works so well, I was able to leave my room door open and use a fan to blow cool air into the rest of the apartment until we purchased a 12K BTU unit for the living room.
It weighs about 60 pounds, so you may need help carrying it up stairs and installing it, but I was able to do it by myself.
The plug fits into a standard 3 prong (grounded) outlet and I made sure I bought a 115 V unit to ensure I was not constantly tripping a circuit during the summer.
In conclusion, I like this unit and I think it works very well. It seems like there is a price premium added to Through The Wall units, but if you’re in a home that already has the sleeve permanently installed in your wall get a Through The Wall unit and consider this air conditioner. Be sure to measure your sleeve first, and check that your nearest outlet can handle the voltage of which ever unit you decide to get.

The a/c I purchased is an 8300 BTU, though the wall unit for my apartment. It came with plenty of foam and fit in my wall box perfectly. It works great and my only niggle is that the hum of the fan is a bit louder than my previous a/c, but I really don’t notice it much anymore. I’m very happy with it!

After doing a lot of research on recommended wall unit ACs, we ended up getting 2 of these to replace our old ACs in our bedrooms. Our old wall sleeve dimensions are 27×17. We didn’t purchase the Koldfront wall sleeve and the AC unit still fit pretty snug when you use the foam padding that the packaging comes with. It was pretty easy to install and within 20-30 minutes it cooled our bedroom (about 100 sq ft) down from 81 degrees to 70. One of the remotes was not working until I replaced with a new battery. It’s decently quiet only when on low mode. Shipping was also fast – it arrived a few days earlier than expected.

Overall working well. Was missing the remote and the seller did nothing to support me or make it right.

I love the 8300 BTU Koldfront air conditioner. It is so quiet and it cools down by living and dining room in record time. I was very happy to receive with no dents or scratches and it fit perfectly in sleeve in my living room.

Works efficiently and fairly quietly on the low and medium fan settings, high is a more noisy setting but that’s to be expected! The question yet to be answered is longevity!
