I am familiar with the air ionizer concept. I have used them for decades. The first one I owned had a metalic fuzz ball on the top, and I could see the tips glow as the ions were generated. The problem was, it was a tall, top heavy cylinder that fell over whenever somone bumped the table, so it ultimately broke. The next ionize was built into a room air freshener. I would use it when smoke from cooking caused my smoke detector to sound off.
This previous unit was rather bulky, so I figured these small plug-in units would be convenient.
The problem is, I can’t tell the unit does anything. The bristles on the top of the unit don’t glow as my first ioniozer did., and after sitting on my kitchen desk for two days, there was no accumulation of dust around the unit as I have experienced with other ionizers. The night light works, so I know it is getting power, but I see no proof that these ionizers actually do anything.

Beware of fire hazard! Causes staining around plug in.
Purchased the 4 pack and there is No Noise, Very Dim Faint Light and Zero Ion Small from the unit. The same small un plugged or plugged in, nothing.
What are the chances of all 4 units being defective?

I plugged this in a couple feet away from my computer desk. After a couple seconds my speakers made some pops, and one of my monitors dropped its image. So it seems to do things, and I need to keep it away from sensitive electronics.
Internally there’s the ion generator module, and an LED board.
The LED board has a bunch of superfluous components: several capacitors and a switch that go nowhere in the circuit. It also has a random pair of wires hanging off that go near the vent on the back of the case. One is connected to neutral (a path back for the negative ions?), the other is unconnected.
The ion module seems to produce an output voltage around -110V. I tested it with a high voltage tester between the plug blades and the carbon emitters, and it appears properly isolated. As far as I can tell this is a proper negative ion module.
Takeaways:
– Circuit board is populated with unnecessary components that don’t do anything
– Loose wires referenced to the mains are bad
– Probably OK ion module

Update: the company saw my review and reached out to me and sent a refund. I may not buy this item again but I will certainly try other items from this company. Great customer service!

I purchased one for my office about a week ago cause it would get stuffy. The air in my office and adjoining office area seems much more fresh. My office is about 180SF. The adjoining office is several time larger.
